The OftelSpecified Numbering Scheme (SNS) data is
issued by Oftel's Numbering Administration Unit
as a zip format file called codelist.zip,
a copy of which may be obtained, via the network, from Oftel.
It contains a number of files which form a database
of allocations of telephone codes in the UK Numbering Scheme.
The data is also available from this Web page
in a variety of formats more suited to those who wish to browse through the
data, or do not wish to unpack and process the Oftel codelist.zip
file themselves.
The information below
is based on the
version
made available on 02 October 2006, size 652718 bytes.
containing:
sabc.txt created 15:07 02 Oct 06 size 317060 bytes
readme.txt created 09:12 12 Sep 06 size 12539 bytes
s1_code.txt created 15:51 02 Oct 06 size 4352286 bytes
s1f_code.txt created 15:03 02 Oct 06 size 301307 bytes
s5_code.txt created 15:03 02 Oct 06 size 44608 bytes
s7_code.txt created 15:03 02 Oct 06 size 366096 bytes
s8_code.txt created 15:06 02 Oct 06 size 711803 bytes
s8f_code.txt created 15:06 02 Oct 06 size 723811 bytes
s9_code.txt created 15:07 02 Oct 06 size 1714825 bytes
s10_code.txt created 15:07 02 Oct 06 size 236818 bytes
In order to understand the data, it is useful to view the README.TXT file which Oftel release
with each version. It takes some getting used to the way that different
parts of the number range are split between different files, with
different fields of information. Browsing the different files below
may help get to grips with this
For a fuller description of the Specified Numbering
Scheme, refer to
Oftel's
Numbering Information, especially the Numbering Conventions document.
The files listed above are made available here in three main formats:
csv - as issued by Oftel in comma separated value
format, accepted by many PC packages.
text - the whole file in plain text format, for easier reading.
tables - split into convenient sized tables, suitable for Web
browsing.
The affect of that is to multiply by three the selection of files available.
This range has been designated for Corporate Numbering or Freephone 0500
migration. Corporate number services will be provided from the Scheme, as and
when there is demand.
Detailed listings of the Area Numbering Range show allocations down to
the D and E digit level - the first two digits of a telephone number
in an area with a code of 1xxx
There is also a summary table of
each the SABC ranges, with the numbers of DE blocks of each status, and ranked
by the number of free DE blocks in that SABC range.
SABC_DEF - Ranges with blocks allocated at F digit level
Exceptionally number ranges are allocated to different operators at the F
digit level. This file lists the allocations to individual operators for the
codes where this occurs and where the relevant Sn_CODE file will
have just noted the operator as "Mixed".
This is an abstract of the Specified Numbering System list
and gives information about all
allocated Codes in the SNS. Oftel no longer issue this file since
it is possible to create most of it by combining
the information in the various of the files above.
The data above is also available sorted into
entries for each separate operator. This may be a more convenient way to
access the data if you are searching for codes allocated to individual
operators.
Each entry in the data supplied by Oftel contains a field which holds the
month and year that entry was changed. The data is typically released
weekly. To view only the changed entries, consult one of the following
sections, sorted by the month in which the change was made:
